Summer June Jamboree Youth Activities Scheduled

Sign up now for the June Jamboree summertime youth activities being conducted by the Nebraska Extension - Custer County Office. June Jamboree activities are open to any youth. 4-H enrollment is not required to participate in these activities. Seventeen activities have been planned for youth of various ages during the month of June, says Colleen Peterson, Custer County 4-H Aide.

Yeast Bread Workshop will be held on Friday, June 1 at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Youth must be age 10-18 to participate in this workshop. At this fun Yeast Bread Workshop, youth will learn math, science, reading and baking know how and create some delicious yeast bread products! Youth will be baking dinner rolls together through a program called Bake for Good Kids sponsored by King Arthur Flour and will donate part of what is made to help the community. The other part of the baked goods will go home with the participants to enjoy! Participants will also learn to make bread in a bag, a loaf of bread, braided bread, and taco pie. Class is limited to the first 12 paid participants. Pre-registration and payment is required by May 25. Cost of the workshop is $15 per person, and includes all supplies and lunch. Instructor for this workshop will be Kayla Hinrichs, Nebraska Extension Educator in Valley County.

Laparoscopy At The Library will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Broken Bow Public Library. Boys and girls who will be in grades 3-5 in the Fall of 2018 are invited to attend. Participants will explore the world of laparoscopic surgery as you think like an engineer to come up with solutions to some of the biomedical challenges faced by individuals today! Registration deadline is June 1. Registration fee is FREE!

Spunky Spool Knitting will be held in two locations. Programs will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow or on Thursday, June 21, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Sargent. This program is for boys and girls ages 9-14. Knitting can come in many shapes and forms. Participants will learn the basics of spool knitting at this workshop by making a cool, individualized project! Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 30. Registration fee is $10.00 per person. Each class is limited to 15 participants.

Haddy Jack's Signs will be held on Thursday, June 7 at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Youth must be age 9-13 to participate in this workshop. Youth will create an original hand painted 12 x 12 wooden sign. Class is limited to 24 participants. Pre-registration and payment is required by Friday, June 1. Cost of the workshop is $10 per person, and includes all supplies and snacks. Instructor for this workshop will be Jen Feik, owner of Haddy Jacks in Broken Bow.

Creative Canvas will be held on Friday, June 8, 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow. Creative Canvas is for boys and girls ages 8-13. Tap into your inner artist to create a one-of-a-kind showpiece! Follow along the step-by-step guided painting class to create a one-of-a-kind canvas painting! Aprons will be provided, but please dress accordingly for painting. Registration deadline is June 1 and the session is limited to 24 participants. Registration fee is $10.00 per person. Canvas, brushes, paint, and easels will be provided for the afternoon. Suzi Campbell, Art Instructor, will be the instructor for this workshop.

Incredible Wearables will be held on Monday, June 11, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow. Boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to attend. If youve ever wondered how wearable technology like the Fitbit or the Apple Watch work, this years National Youth Science Day challenge is for you! Called Incredible Wearables, the challenge will have you and a group of your friends working together as an engineering team to build a functioning health monitor using a small computer and low cost sensors. Registration deadline is June 7. Registration fee is $5.00 per person. This workshop is limited to 15 participants.

Electricity Mystery will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Broken Bow Public Library. Boys and girls who will be in grades 3-5 in the Fall of 2018 are invited to attend. Have you ever wondered what makes the lights work? In this session you will learn just that! Youth will explore the basic principles of electricity in this workshop! Registration deadline is June 8. Registration fee is FREE!

Explore Germany will be held Wednesday, June 13, 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow for boys and girls who are age 5-7 by January 1, 2018. Participants MUST bring an adult helper. Ever wonder what it would be like to travel to another country? Students will get a taste of Germany by learning about the local games, clothing, and food! Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 6. Registration fee is $10.00, which includes all materials for activities. This workshop is limited to 20 participants.

Design Camp will be held Thursday, June 14 through Friday, June 15 at the State 4-H Camp, Halsey. 4-Hers must be enrolled in STEAM Clothing 2 - Simply Sewing or STEAM Clothing 3 - A Stitch Further and be 10 years of age or older to participate in the camp. Youth will get the opportunity to create your own original design on a yard of fabric, then specifically design fabric for a garment. Participants will also design a t-shirt learning about Sun Painting and develop their very own Design Portfolio while learning the science behind sewing. The fashionistas will also have the opportunity to enjoy the 4-H camp experience by tubing down the river, zipping down the zip line, and spending a night at the camp. The camp will begin Thursday, June 14 at 9:00 a.m. CDT and conclude on Friday, June 15 at 4:00 p.m. with a runway style show with everyone modeling their original creation. Registration deadline is Tuesday, June 5. Registration fee is $125 per 4-Her, which covers all fabric, paint, t-shirt, and all camp costs. "Up, Up, & Away" Rock Workshop will be held Monday, June 18, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow for youth ages 8 to 13. This workshop is an introduction to model rocketry. Participants will experience education on model rocket safety; education on basic launch pad, igniter, and engine function; education on some different recovery systems and recovery system deployment; education on multi-stage engines and rockets; and successfully assemble, fly, and recover (weather permitting) an easy to assemble rocket. Registration deadline is Friday, June 1. Registration fee is $15.00, which includes all materials for activities. Instructor for this workshop will be Tim Wiiest, 4-H Volunteer.

"Egg-citing" Workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow for boys and girls ages 8-12 years old. Explore the Cooking 201 curriculum through learning about a variety of ways you can use eggs! Registration deadline is Tuesday, June 12. Registration fee is $10.00 per person. This workshop is limited to 15 participants.

Growing Healthy Habits will be held Wednesday, June 20, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow. This workshop is for youth who are ages 8 to 13. Who knew that learning about plants could be so delicious? Join us for the afternoon to learn about plants and their growing environment while enjoying tasty treats! Youth will learn about healthy eating habits through three lessons: Eat Your Colors, Parts of the Plant We Eat, and Soil Salad. Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 13. Registration fee is $10.00 per person. Instructor for this workshop will be David Lott, West Central District Extension Educator in Horticulture.

Fun Fibers will be held Friday, June 22, 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Broken Bow for boys and girls who are age 5-7 by January 1, 2018. Participants MUST bring an adult helper. Students will get creative as they craft with yarn by constructing a picture frame, pom-poms, and enjoy a snack! Registration deadline is Friday, June 15. Registration fee is $10.00, which includes all materials for activities. This workshop is limited to 20 participants.

Rollerscoasters will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Broken Bow Public Library. Boys and girls who ages 4-12 are invited to attend. Have you ever ridden on a rollercoaster? Have you ever thought about what it would be like to build a rollercoaster? Throughout this workshop you will explore some of the challenges engineers encounter during the building process. Registration deadline is June 25. Registration fee is FREE!

Puppets will be held on Thursday, June 28, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Broken Bow Public Library. Boys and girls who will be in grades K-2 in the Fall of 2018 are invited to attend. Get in touch with your creative side by crafting puppets and practicing your charade skills! Registration deadline is June 26. Registration fee is FREE!

June Jamboree Grad Finale - "Free Movie" will be held on Friday, June 29, 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Tiffany Theater in Broken Bow. The Grand Finale is for any boy or girl who attended a June Jamboree activity in 2018! Be sure to sign up for a June Jamboree activity NOW, so that you can attend the June Jamboree Grand Finale...a FREE Movie at Tiffany Theater! Registration deadline is June 27. Registration fee is FREE. Youth will need to bring money for concessions.
