Rollin Ross Struckman was born in Ord, Nebraska to Henry John and May Elizabeth (Rogers) Struckman on April 15, 1926. Rollin grew up on the family farm east of Burwell where he lived and worked his entire life.
As a boy he attended the District Rural School and graduated from Ord High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Army during WWII where he served as a medic and saw active duty in the Philippines and Japan after the bomb. He served in the 34th regiment of the 24th Infantry Division from Sept. 28, 1944
to Nov. 26, 1946 for 2 years and 2 months. He received many medals for his service with the “Distinguished Service Medal” being one of his special honors.
After leaving the service he worked in Kansas City before returning to the family farm to help his mother
and brother. It was at this time he met the love of his life, who was a country school teacher, Mary Ann Jablonski. They were married on August 22, 1953 in Ord, NE. The couple made their home on the
family farm and began the hard life of a rancher. For 63 years they lived the life of corn, hay and cattle. Calving season was a special time for Rollin that he loved and passed on to his sons Brad and
Craig. His work ethic never allowed him to retire and he was often seen out driving his old pickup and daily checking on everything until recent health problems slowed him down. A strong belief in
hard work and a love for the land was also instilled in his sons.
Rollins special joys were his 3 grand-daughters, extended family and friends that he enjoyed spending
time with. He was an avid reader and liked to fish. Supporting his sons and granddaughters in all the activities was also very important to him. He found time to support many organizations. He was a
lifetime member of the Ord VFW Post #7029, Burwell American Legion Post #298, the Elks, 4H Leader, FHA Board, ASCS Committee, Rural Fire Volunteer. He was a member of the Ord Methodist Church.
