Harry W. Gaukel, 83, of Burwell, Nebraska died February 24, 2017.
Funeral services will be
10:30 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 at the First Congregational
Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery
in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be
Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Legion Post #298 or the
Burwell Fire & Rescue.
Harry was born October 1,
1933 at Burwell, Nebraska to William and Rosetta (Lakin) Gaukel. He
graduated from Burwell High School in 1952. After graduation he
worked at the Mead Defense Plant and the Wahoo Packing Plant. In
1953 he entered the United States Army. He did his basic training at
Ft. Riley, Kansas and was stationed at Wild Flicken, Germany. Harry
was honorably discharged in 1955.
Harry married his high
school sweet heart, Patsy Ehlers on August 21, 1955 in Burwell. They
lived west of Sargent for seven years and then they moved north of
Burwell for eight years. In 1971 they bought the Alfred Derner ranch
west of Burwell.
Harry was the Commander of
Legion Post 298 and the Burwell Color Guard. He and Pasty were
active in operating the Legion Club through the years. He enjoyed
fishing, hunting, traveling, camping, and the animals on his farm and
ranch. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Legion
and VFW. He was a member of the Loup County Zoning Board and the
Calamus Lake Association. He also enjoyed old Ford pickups and John
Harry is survived by his
wife Patsy Gaukel. Two sons, Larry Gaukel and Roger Gaukel all of
Burwell, Nebraska. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Dorothy Schneider and Genevieve Udell both of Burwell,
Nebraska and a brother, Bill Gaukel of Valley, Nebraska.

death by his parents, a step-mother, Pearl and a sister, Doris
