Dorthy Ellen Barr, 87, of Kearney, formerly of Ord and Hastings, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center.
Memorials Services will be held Friday, March 10, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the Kearney Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Brian Klein will officiate. The family will greet friends and family on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Home Chapel in Kearney. Inurnment will be held at the Ord Bohemian Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Royal Family Kids Camp. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Dorthy was born April 27, 1929, at Ord Nebraska to Benjamin and Ida (Hull) Morris. She graduated from Ord High School in 1948.
Dorthy was united in marriage to Robert J. Sich March 5, 1950, at the Bethel Baptist Church at Ord. The couple lived on a farm where they raised their three children, David, Roxanne and Rosellen.
Dorthy was a Girls Scout Leader for 11 years, starting the first Junior, Cadette, and Senior Troops in Ord. She also served as the Day Camp Director for several years and the Council Board.
Dorthy was a farmwife and mother. She had worked for the Absalon Variety Store, Ord Locker, and Cetak’s Grocery Store. Robert passed away in 1977. She later married Stanley H. Barr on February 14, 1988, at the Methodist Church at Ord. They made their home in Ord. Stanley passed away in 2011.
Dorthy loved doing stained glass; she had a business called Touch of Glass. She was humbled to be asked to do church windows among many other projects.
Survivors include a son, David R. Sich of Holbrook, NE; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne and Rick Nelson of Hastings and Rosellen and Ken Harvey of Kearney; also Kim Radil of Comstock and Cindy Courtney of Hastings who Dorthy considered as daughters; four grandchildren, Heather Crawford and her husband, Justin, David Harvey and his wife Alex, Brittany Sorensen and her husband, Tanner and Derrick Nelson; four great-grandchildren, Lexi, Jamin, Beth and Joseph Crawford; and two sisters, Etta Pesha and her husband, Jerry of Wibaux, MT and Carol Ann McMullin of Aurora, Missouri; and a step-son, Roger Barr of Omaha.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, Benjamin and Virgil Morris; a sister, Fern Flaherty; and a step-son, Stanley Barr and a step-daughter, Sharellyn (Barr) Sartain.
