Debra Kay Eppenbach, 57, of Ord passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell. Pastor Jon Franson will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Dementia Research or St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell. Ord
Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Debra Kay was born September 16, 1959, at Ord, Nebraska to Burt “Pete” and Juanita C. “Nita” (Forsyth) Johnson. She was raised in Ord where she received her education and graduated from Ord High School in 1979.

Following high school Deb worked at the Valley County Hospital. On December 15, 1984, she was united in marriage to Michael J. Eppenbach at Burwell. To this union two sons were born, Brad and Casey and they joined two step-sons, Todd and Jeff.

Mike and Deb made their home on the family farmstead east of Burwell. They farmed and ranched in Valley and Garfield Counties. Along with being a homemaker and helping on the farm, Deb also worked at Shurfine Food Center in Burwell and did housework in the Ord and Burwell areas. Mike passed away on July 16, 2011, Deb remained on the farm until 2013, when she moved into Ord.

Deb was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, collecting antiques and her farm animals. Her pride and joy were her two granddaughters, Kiara and Amaya.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law; Brad of Ord and Casey and Sally of Lincoln; two step-sons Todd Eppenbach of Houston, Texas and Jeff and his wife, Shannon Eppenbach of Lincoln; two granddaughters, Kiara and Amaya Eppenbach of Lincoln; her father, Burt “Pete” Johnson of Ord; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Gary Valasek of Fort Collins, CO; and a brother, Michael Johnson of Ord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Eppenbach; her mother, Juanita C. “Nita” Johnson; a brother, Jimmy Johnson and a sister, Teri Johnson.
