Delmer Merle Conner, 78, of Burwell, Nebraska died April 1, 2017 at the Valley County Health Systems Hospital in Ord, Nebraska.
There will be a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell, Nebraska, where he was a long time member. Pastor Jon Franson will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Fire Department or St. John’s Lutheran Church. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Delmer was born March 3, 1939 in Garfield County, Nebraska to Orville and Elsie (Mattern) Conner.
Delmer graduated from Ord High School in 1957, where he played football. His high school football team was honored in the Ord Hall of fame in 2015. Delmer was also a Golden Gloves boxer.
Delmer married Deanna Dee Meyer on October 29, 1961 at Scotia, Nebraska. They made their home northeast of Burwell, where they farmed and ranched with his brother, Celby. In 2000 they moved into Burwell, but Delmer continued to go out to the farm.
Delmer enjoyed collecting jugs, hunting, fishing, playing cards and cribbage, going to coffee and
selling Fontanelle Seed Corn. His greatest joy was his family and the five grandchildren were the light of his life.
Delmer is survived by his wife Dee Conner of Burwell, Nebraska. Two daughters, Lisa and Roger Obermier of York, Nebraska and Korlyn and Dave Goff of Burwell, Nebraska. Five grandchildren, Dustin and Anna Goff and great-grandson, Tysen of Burwell, Nebraska, Wesley and Nena Obermier and Wade & Crissa Obermier all of York, Nebraska and Kaden Goff and Kortney Goff both of Burwell, Nebraska. Two brothers, Orville and Marlene Conner of Fearrington, North Carolina and Darrell Conner of Ord, Nebraska.
Delmer was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Audrey “Slim” and Celby.
