Sharon Kay “Chris” Sheldon, 75, of North Loup passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the North Loup United Methodist Church. Reverend Toni Nolze and Jim Goodrich will officiate. She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Chris was born July 25, 1941, at Dannebrog, Nebraska to Earl and Florence (Feddersen) Christensen. She took great pride in being a Dane and embraced her heritage while living in the small Danish capitol of Nebraska. She attended the Dannebrog Elementary School and High School.

After high school graduation in 1959, Chris rode the train to Lincoln while attending the Lincoln School of Commerce. She worked at Consolidate Plumbing & Supply in Lincoln. She relocated to Grand Island and was hired as a legal secretary for Louis Holmes Attorney at Law and for the Hall County Welfare Office.

On August 20, 1961, she was united in marriage to Wayne W. “Sonny” Sheldon. The couple made their home in North Loup. To this union three children were born, Kevin, Carrie, and Barbara. She was devoted to raising her family, but as they grew she joined the labor force once again. Chris obtained her insurance license and became an independent insurance agent. She was always involved in the North Loup community and communities surrounding her home. She became a member of the North Loup Popcorn Days Committee, the North Loup Library Board, Business and Professional Women’s Club and was a member of many committees at the North Loup Scotia Schools as she supported her children’s numerous activities.

Chris was first and always a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She sewed clothes for her family, costumes for school plays, and anything needed for community events. She loved to cook and bake for her family, and many times filled the table with invited guests from the neighborhood. Her love of setting a beautiful table, perfecting recipes for a flavorful meal, decorating for a “perfect holiday” look, and gifting from the heart, made her a special person loved by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne “Sonny” of North Loup; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Michelle Sheldon of Ord; two daughters, Carrie Sheldon of North Loup, and Barbara Sheldon of Chandler, Arizona; five grandchildren, Tucker Moyer and Mollie Moyer of Chandler, Arizona, McKenna Sheldon and Tyler Sheldon of Ord, and Mike Sheldon of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Earl and Florence Christensen; and a brother, Dustin Christensen of Bullhead City, Arizona.
