Betty Lou Neel, 77, of Ord returned home to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Monday, September 11, 2017.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Ord Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Doug Olson will officiate. Mrs. Neel’s wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will
be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice to be designated at a later time. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Betty was born on January 30, 1940, at Mondamin, Iowa to Edward A. and Dorothy F. (Shepard) Poe. She received her education at Woodbine, Iowa.
On January 1, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Lloyd Smith at Woodbine, Iowa. To this union five children were born. The family lived in North Loup and later moved to Grand Island. Mr. Smith passed away on March 25, 1982.
Betty married Dewey Neel on June 8, 1985, at Grand Island, Nebraska. They made their home in Loveland, Colorado for two years before returning to Nebraska and settled in Ord where Betty made her home until her passing. Mr. Neel passed away on May 24, 2013.
Betty was a loving mother. She was a homemaker that enjoyed baking for everyone. She enjoyed embroidered pillow cases and dresser scarves and was an avid Husker fan.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Marilyn Smith of Kingsville, Missouri, David Smith of Lansing, Kansas and Douglas and Nichole Smith of Lincoln; two daughters and a son-in-law, Laurie Smith of Merriam, Kansas and Leslie and Dale Ljunggren of Harvard; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Connie and Curt Kline of Dunlap, Iowa and Sharron Kindred of Woodbine, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Lloyd Smith and Dewey Neel; and a brother, Robert Poe.
