Norman John Christiansen, 87, of Burwell, Nebraska died September 19, 2017 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor Harry Landaw will officiate. Inurnment will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Burwell Baptist Church. Hitchcock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Norm was born in Pierce County near Plainview, Nebraska on July 29, 1930 to John and Celia (Rasmussen) Christiansen. His family moved from Plainview to Holt County in 1936 to farm. Norm went to rural school in Holt County and then high school in Neligh, graduating in 1948.
Norm married Bonnie Libby on August 22, 1950 in Yankton, South Dakota. Norm taught rural school in Holt and Garfield counties. He then went on to Dana College and UNO to receive his Masters. He retired from teaching in 1987. He then worked for the Manarin Investment Council for the next ten years. Norm and Bonnie moved to Burwell in 2001.
Norm was a member of the Burwell Baptist Church, where he was a disciple of God. He enjoyed fishing and being a part of the financial world.
Norm is survived by his wife Bonnie Christiansen of Burwell. A daughter Julie and Monte Bernhagen of Pella, Iowa. Five grandchildren, Randy and Kally Christiansen of Omaha, Nebraska, AJ Bernhagen of Loveland, Colorado, Trevor Bernhagen of Loveland, Colorado, Chelsey and Blake Thingstad of Pella, Iowa and Cassie and Frank Ahrens of Montezuma, Iowa and several great-grandchildren.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard John Christiansen, two brothers, Delbert Christiansen and Jack Christiansen and two sisters, Marjorie Schindler and Dorothy Hubel.
