“Audine” was born the sixteenth of October, 1939 to Glen and Helen (Rowse) Ballagh at the home of her Grandparents, Art and Emma Rowse, on the Rowse homestead where Rowse Rakes is located today. She attended Burwell High School and graduated in 1956. She began teaching in a rural school in Garfield county after graduation.

She was married August 2, 1958 to John Vernon Woods of Burwell. From this union three children were born: John, Gala and Ramona. After the birth of her third child, Audine began working at the US Postal Service as maintenance personnel. Through her hard work and determination, she was promoted to a clerk. Then in 1982 she was appointed Postmaster and she held that position until 2004 when she retired.

Audine enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it be on the family farm, a 4H event or sporting event. Audine was very involved in the community. She taught Sunday school and was a leader in AWANA. She was also involved in the local DAR Loup Trail chapter. During this time Audine also started one of her most loved sports of bowling. She attended over 48 state tournaments, and bowled in uncountable local tournaments. She also began golfing at the Calamus Golf course and found hours of enjoyment with the sport, and got to be quite a proficient golfer.

Audine was blessed with two grandchildren. Even though she visited them often, upon retirement, Audine found herself with the time to be able to see (and spoil) them much more often. She always kept a packed bag in her trunk so she could leave to see them at a moment’s notice.

Audine was preceded in death by her husband, infant son, infant grandson Neil Glen, parents, brothers Lanny, Duane and Kerry. Survivors include, son John Vernon Jr and wife Rhonda of Hermosa, SD, daughter Gala Sesna and husband Dave of Kearney, NE and Ramona Welsh and husband Trent of Lincoln, NE, and grandchildren Lillie Woods and Camden Sesna, sisters Patricia Woods of Burwell, NE and Barbara and husband John Harris of LaBarge, WY, sisters-in-law Ardith Ballagh of Burwell, NE, and Mickey Ballagh of Burwell, NE, also many nieces and nephews.
