Larry Leroy Johnson, 80 of Burwell Nebraska died February 17, 2018 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell Nebraska.
Larry was born January 4, 1938 in Sargent Nebraska to Raymond and Gladys (Gruber) Johnson.
Larry attended West Union countrym school west of Sargent and then later he went into town to school. Larry began working while he was still in school for neighbors.
On February 18, 1961 Larry was united in married to Karen Hoppes in Burwell NE. To this union two children were born, BamBe and Bud.
Larry & Karen enjoyed country music, dancing, and being with friends. They devoted a lot of time to
Nebraska’s Big Rodeo, a passion they truly enjoyed together. He was saddened when he lost the love of his life, Karen in 2009.
Larry worked for the Loup Valley
Alfalfa Mill, the Garfield County Road Department, FW Transportation,
Cass Construction and Burwell Feeders. Larry retired in 2013 due to
his health. Larry’s love for his family was evident as he talked
about his kids, grandkids and great grandkids with a chuckle and a
smile. His love for watching westerns, the NFR, reading the Western
Horseman and going to horse sales was among his favorite things to
do. He enjoyed team roping and the Calcutta’s that went along with
them. He truly had a passion for horses and rodeo.
Larry is survived by a daughter BamBe
and Marc Currie of Kearney Nebraska, a son Bud and Brandi (Plugge)
Johnson of Burwell Nebraska. Five grandchildren Tyler and Moriah
Currie, Parker Johnson and fiancé ShayLee Carson, Bailea Johnson,
Lerrin (Currie) and Noah Rowe and Cameron Currie. Four great
grandchildren Jackson Gull, Owen Currie, Styla and Rextyn Rowe. A
Sister Karen (Johnson) and Jim O’Neill of Sargent Ne and a brother
Danny Johnson of Texas. A sister-in-law Kathy (Hoppes) and Rodney
Barthel of Oklahoma.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife
Karen and his parents.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am
Thursday February 22, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Burwell,
Nebraska. Burial in Cottonwood Cemetery. Pastor Marty Robbins and
Pastor JB Sikes will officiate. Visitation is from 5-7 pm Wednesday
at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell Nebraska. Memorials are
suggested to the family.
