William R. “Bill” Valla, 90, of Ord passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at the Valley View Senior Village in Ord.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father John Kakkuzhiyil will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial
Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or Valley View Senior Village.

William Richard was born May 5, 1927, in Valley County, Nebraska to Frank Joseph and Antonia May (Moravecek) Valla. He was raised on the family farm in the Gravel Creek area of Valley County, north of Ord where he received his education at Hilltop District #60 School.

Bill joined the United States Army in 1945. He served in Germany during World War II and then in the Korean War until his discharge in 1951.

On December 30, 1953, Bill married Sophia Ann Capek at Ord. The couple moved to Arcadia in 1955, and lived there until 1963. Bill was a farm hand for local farmers and then worked at a local grain elevator
after moving to Ord in 1971. Sophia passed away on June 1, 2014.

Bill was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four children and their spouses, Sue and Rick Koch of Ord, Paul and Lori Valla of Scribner, Kathy and Russ Hill of Kearney, and Kevin and Becky Valla of Ord; 13 grandchildren; and 16
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Einsphar of Kearney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sophia; three brothers, Joe, Emil and Frank Valla; and a sister, Rose Brittenham.
