Gary Leon Miller, 75, of Burwell, Nebraska died March 30, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell.
Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Stan Gurney
will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at
Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. In lieu of flowers, memorial are
suggested to Nebraska’s Big Rodeo.
Gary was born July 6, 1942 in Garfield
County to James “Bud” and Louise (Davis) Miller.
Gary graduated from Burwell High School
in 1960. He married Ruth Dexter on June 9, 1963 in Burwell. They
ranched in northern Garfield county until they moved to his grandpa’s
place in the mid 1970’s. In 2007 they moved to their home
northwest of Burwell.
Gary enjoyed fishing, working, horses,
rodeo, roping, cows, coyote hunting, coon hunting and traveling in
later years. He was proud of his team of draft horses that carried
dignitaries during the rodeo parade. He also used them for haying,
feeding cattle, hay rack rides and Christmas Caroling.
Gary is survived by his wife Ruth
Miller of Burwell. Three children, Marty and Nancy Miller of
Valentine, Nebraska, Kim and Mike Bower of Humphrey, Nebraska and
Becky and Shane Spanel of Burwell, Nebraska. Seven grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren. A brother, Wilbur and Bonnie Miller of
Burwell, Nebraska and five sisters, Vonnie and Ken Jurgensen of
Burwell, Nebraska, Tootie and Jack Ruppel of Taylor, Nebraska,
Shirley and Orrin Helgeland of Burwell, Nebraska, Dena and Rich
Clouse of Rifle, Colorado and Pam and Bub Chaffin of Burwell,
