Mary C. Nutting, 97, of Ericson passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Ericson United Methodist Church. Pastor Duane Waddle will officiate. Burial will be in the Bartlett Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Donor’s favorite charity. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Cathryn was born February 2, 1921, at her grandfather’s homestead on the banks of the Cedar River, west of Ericson, Nebraska to Ray and Francis (Van Horn) Young. When Mary was two, her mother died and she was raised by her grandmother, Mayme Van Horn.
Mary graduated from Ericson High School and Kearney State Teachers College. She taught at rural country schools for many years including Ericson, Burwell and Bartlett.
In 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Howard Nutting while he was stationed at Offutt Field in Omaha. The couple lived in Omaha until Howard retired from the service and then they settled in Ericson.
Mary was a long time member of the Ericson Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and knitting. In 1944, Mary organized the Ericson Alumni and kept in touch with all who attended
school in Ericson. Above all, family most the most important part of Mary’s life.
Survivors include a son, Michael Nutting and his fiancée, Rosemary Davis both of Creighton; two grandsons, Jeff and Alex Nutting; and three great-grandchildren; Aubrey, Anjolie and Archer Nutting. To Mary, everyone was family; she loved all and never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard.
