Bernice Alberta was born April 2, 1921, in Greeley County, Nebraska to Leslie and Nellie (Gydesen) Wilson. She walked two miles to school at Cotesfield and graduated from North Loup High School in 1940. During her high school years and summers she worked at W.O. Zangger’s of North Loup and after later at the IGA Store.
On June 22, 1942, Bernice was united in marriage to the love of her life, Eldon Sintek at Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Sonja Rae, and Joanne Kay (Jody). Bernice and Eldon first lived with her parents until Eldon entered the United States Army. While in basic training they resided in Junction City, Kansas until Bernice returned to North Loup. Eldon was discharged from the Army in 1945. The couple began farming in 1946, then moved to a farm north of North Loup in 1948, and lived on the farm owned by Dr. CJ Miller until 1979, when they moved into North Loup. They were proud of that move because it was their first home they owned.
Eldon and Bernice enjoyed going to all the army reunions which took them across the United States. She was a 70 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Progressive Extension Club and belonged to several card clubs with friends. Bernice was a member and very active in the North Loup United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a 4-H Leader for her two daughters.
Bernice enjoyed making dinner rolls and lemon, sour cream raisin and custard pies that she shared with family and friends. Bernice and Eldon enjoyed dancing and playing cards together.
Bernice will be remember by the many dollies she crocheted for wedding gifts and the tooth fairy pillows she sewed for over 200 babies in the area. She sewed her last pillow in 2014, for her great-great-grandson, Cole Bokish. She also sewed clothing for her daughters and others.
