Service Details

Irma L. Greenland, 94, of Arcadia, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at St. John’s Good Samaritan Care Home in Kearney.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Jeff D. Hale will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia American Legion Auxiliary Post #251 or the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangement.

Irma Louise was born August 1, 1923, to Ward and Hulda (Meyers) Goodrich at North Loup, Nebraska. She was raised in North Loup and graduated from North Loup High School in 1941.

On May 16, 1946, Irma was united in marriage to Marvin G. Greenland at Ft. Riley, Kansas. The couple first resided in Arcadia for a year. On a bitter cold day, Marvin and Irma moved to a farm south of Loup City and later to the Jake Greenland farm south of Arcadia where they farmed for 7 years. On January 11, 1952, they purchased the R.B. Williams acreage southeast of Arcadia where they resided for 28 years and raised their family. In 1983, the couple settled in Arcadia. Marvin passed away on July 3, 2013.

During her adult life Irma worked at various jobs in the area. She was employed at Community Action, BD, and was a teacher’s aide. Irma and Marvin operated the Arcadia American Legion Club for many years and she owned and operated “The Solution” and a ceramic shop.

Irma was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post #251, Red Hats, and Garden Club and served on the Election Board. She enjoyed garage sales, sewing, embroidering, baking, cooking and having the kids over for coffee after school. She will be remembered as “The Queen of Cinnamon Rolls”.

Survivors include three daughters; a son; and their spouses, Marlene and Jerry Bader of Kearney, Sherry and Al Viscarra of Sandy, Oregon, Dennis and Karmen Greenland of Arcadia; and Kristie and Terry DeBord of Kearney; a daughter-in-law, Karen (Mrs. Gary) Greenland of Arcadia; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; her son, Gary; and five sisters, Cora, Merna, Hannah, Joyce and Thelma.
