Mary L. Rice, 87, of Ord passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018, at CHI Good Samaritan Medical Center in Kearney.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at
the Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Jeff D.
Hale will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ord
Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to The Mira Valley
Evangelical United Methodist Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge
of arrangements.

Mary Louise was born September 29, 1930, at Ashton, South Carolina to John
Charles and Ida Louise (Murdaugh) Murdaugh. She was raised in Lodge,
South Carolina where she received her education and graduated from
high school in 1947.

Following high school, Mary continued her education at Colombia School of
Business. While in Columbia one of her classmates arranged a blind
date for her with Harold Rice which led to their marriage on December
18, 1949, at Lodge, South Carolina.

Following Harold’s discharge from the Army in 1950, the couple moved to
Nebraska until Harold was recalled in April of 1951 and served until
October of 1951. The couple settled in Ord, Nebraska. Mary was a
dedicated wife and mother to her five children. Mr. Rice passed away
on December 30, 2007. Mary continued to live in her home until
October of 2017, when she moved to Grandview Assisted Living Center.

Mary was a very active member of the Mira Valley Evangelical United
Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved with
VBS. She was active in United Methodist Women and held many offices.
Mary did office work and cleaned at the Ord Untied Methodist Church
and served on the Valley County Election Board.

Mary enjoyed crocheting, reading cooking, gardening and playing computer
games. She especially enjoyed her family and caring for her

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis
H. and Peggy Rice and Robert D. and Corinne Rice all of Ord; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and David Puckett of Alabaster, AL
and Peggy and Everett Brott of Ord; a sister-in-law, Cecily Murdaugh
of SC; eight grandchildren, Lynda, Daniel, Joshua, Calvin, Crystal,
Thomas, Brandon and Angel; six great-grandchildren; and 2

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; a son,
Wayne E. Rice; two brothers, Charles and Leon Murdaugh; and three
sisters, Ann Spencer, Amaryllis Barwick and Fay Charpia.
