Maxine Irene Brown, 97, of Burwell, Nebraska died January 23, 2017 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. Pastor Jon Franson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Maxine Irene (Scherzberg) Brown was born to Alfred and Wilma (Scherbarth)Scherzberg on the ranch in Loup County on December 28, 1919.

As a young girl she was made a child of God through her baptism in the Calamus River on June 7, 1936. She attended the rural grade school at Valleyview and graduated from high school at Taylor, Nebraska. After taking normal training in high school she taught a total of seven years in Spring Creek, Ovitt and Valleyview rural schools.

She married Vern Brown on October 6, 1939 and after Vern got out of the service they lived for a short time in Taylor where they ran the cream station. The couple then moved to Burwell and later were blessed with two children, Andrea Lynn and Kevin Paul. Maxine attended St. John’s Lutheran Church. She and Vern were confirmed at St. Johns on April 6, 1952. She also loved to serve her Lord by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, quilting, Dorcas Ladies Aid-LWML and also took great pride in being a member of the Loup and Garfield County Historical Societies and the

Valleyview Ladies Club. She loved being outdoors and gardening. She canned and shared produce with her friends and family.

Shewas preceded in death by her husband, Vern Brown, parents, Alfred and Wilma Scherzberg, infant sister, Beatrice Scherzberg, brother, Leland Scherzberg, sister,

Bernice Schrup and her husband Robert, brother, Virgil Scherzberg and wife Dolores, Son, Kevin Brown, sister in law, Leora White and brother in law, Orill Gilbert.

Those left to cherish her love are daughter and son in law, Andrea and William Bader of St. Libory, Ne., grandchildren, Holly Bader of Manassas, Va. Jared Bader and wife Tami of Tempe, Az. Daryl Bader and wife Ranelle of St. Libory, great grandchildren,

Grace, Daniel and Nathan Bader, a brother in law John Gilbert and wife, Pat,
sister in law Eula Mae Scherzberg, nieces, nephews and cousins.
