Service Details

Darlene Kay (Osentowski) Freeman, 61, of Burwell, Nebraska lost her battle with cancer February 6, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell, Nebraska. A private inurnment will be at a later date in Cottonwood Cemetery. Fr. John Kakkuzhiyil will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral
Home in Burwell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to "For The Cure” or the Burwell Community Fund.

Darlene was born in Ord, Nebraska on August 8, 1955, as daughter of the late Edward and Lillian Osentowski. She grew-up on a farm by North Loup, Nebraska and graduated from Ord Public School in 1973. Darlene moved to Berwyn, Nebraska to help physically and mentally handicap people at Mid-Nebraska in Broken Bow. After an offer to be the Executive Director at Sargent Public Housing, Darlene moved to Sargent,

Nebraska. While in Sargent, Darlene worked full-time, was a volunteer EMT with the fire department, delivered the Grand Island Dailey Independent and Omaha World Herald along with running a greenhouse with her sister.

She married Mark Freeman on March 25, 1989 and eventually moved to Burwell. She took a lot of pride in her beautiful yard, garden and flowers as she was great in horticulture. Darlene also got requests from family, friends and others for drawings and paintings as she was a great artist. She
enjoyed carpentry work and remodeling their home and was active in helping with Nebraska’s Big Rodeo.

She leaves her husband, Mark Freeman of Burwell, NE, two daughters, Paula Jones in Vietnam and Jody Jones-Skibinski and her husband Cary Skibinski of Lincoln, NE along with two sons, Shane Freeman of St. Louis, MO and Chris Jones and his wife Lisa Jones of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Peyton and Kyla Jones. Darlene's surviving relatives include her sisters Patty and her husband Larry Kokes of Elyria, NE and Debra and her husband Brian Featherstone in Pennsylvania and her brother Tom Osentowski of Ord, NE.

She was predeceased by her parents Ed and Lillian Osentowski and her sister Janet Zabloudil.
